"Good Routines create good behaviours, bad routines creatE bad behaviours"
Welcome to real dog training!
The options for dog training these days are endless, from online tutorials to sport or breed specific clubs, behaviourists and apparently even canine psychotherapists!
It’s all got too complicated, and the roots of dog ownership and training have got lost in the process.
Having a dog is meant to be enjoyable. It is meant to provide companionship, give you a responsibility to get out in the fresh air to exercise, and even open the door to making new friends along the way. In return for these opportunities, we are meant to provide security, food, love and fulfilment to our dogs.
In recent years the reasons for owning a dog have changed, they have become a novelty that “completes” people’s lives, provides a talking point or indeed a photograph opportunity to show everyone else. Along with this we have expected them to fall in line with our expectations and behave like… well, a cuddly toy instead of a dog.
Building a Balanced Relationship With Your Dog
Dogs should fit into our lives, but in order to achieve this we should give them what THEY need.
This means getting up early and going out in the rain before you go to work, it may mean altering your usual holiday plans, and it usually means applying stricter boundaries at home than you were intending.
We as owners need to stop looking at what WE WANT and start looking at what our DOGS NEED in order to have an enjoyable life with minimal conflict in the relationship.
All the training exercises in the world will not fix an imbalance between dog and owner, but they will start a process of team building and respect that is invaluable.
If you are looking for quick fixes to major problems, hacks for improving behaviour or pointers to get your dog to walk nicely, we aren’t going to be able to help you.
Training Designed Around You and Your Dog
If you want to ensure everything is in place for good behaviour, if you are prepared to put effort into training yourself as well as your dog and you aren’t full of wants or excuses, then we will be able to help you!
1-1 Training
1-1 training will give you a solid foundation for all you need for a well behaved dog.
We will adapt your systems and management at home to create effective routines and boundaries, introduce suitable training exercises for the goals you have, and help you to make assessments on the situations you will face with your dog and how they will affect behaviour.
We always have our own “stooge” dogs available to use when the time is right, to help your dog work around others that may distract them. There may be a lot to learn, but with 1-1 attention at our private training ground, planning, and our well received ebooks we will help you through.
Class Training
Class training not only opens up the variety of exercise and activities you learn, but importantly helps your dog to listen and respond to you around the distraction of other people and dogs - a skill needed for everyday life.
Initially, not all dogs are ready for group training - both yourself and your dog may need extra help in order to learn in this environment - therefore, based on your collective experience we may offer you a trial to see if classes will be the most beneficial at this point. We have classes available weekdays and an evening, and on a Saturday, giving you plenty of opportunity to pick what suits you best each week.
The rolling structure of our classes means that we can adapt exercises to the individuals within it so everyone works to their level. Our teaching and instructing experience enables us to give you the best help within a group, and with our separate training areas we can even offer private areas for certain exercises.
Fix Problems, Progress Training, Enjoy your dog!
